*CORONOVIRUS UPDATE*

The shape of the NHS has changed drastically given the Coronavirus Pandemic. 

Boroughbury Medical Centre  has had to make changes to our service as advised by the British Medical Association. 

1. With immediate effect we have implemented a telephone triage system. Please do not walk in to the practice.

2. You can book a telephone consultations online . These appointments will be released on a daily basis. Please do not attend the practice if you have booked a telephone appointment online - you will be turned away.

3. Only face to face appointments that are essential can be booked by the clinician.

4. We regret to advise that our branch surgery in Werrington is closed until further notice. This decision has been taken to focus all our resources on the main site at Craig Street. 

5. We have processes in place to make sure you get your medications – please do not over order. you can order your prescription by emailing the following address CAPCCG.bmcprescriptions@nhs.net  you do not need a password.

6. If you are required to self isolate, we do not provide sick certificates. This is not required.

We are working very hard to maintain our service to our patients in a safe manner. We are exploring all avenues to maintain that service. We also now offer video consultations. 

We are keen to work with local voluntary groups to help people who are in need during this difficult time .

In summary Social Distancing measures are steps you can take to reduce the social interaction between people. This will help reduce the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19). They are:

  • Avoid contact with someone who is displaying symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19). These symptoms include high temperature and/or new and continuous cough
  • Avoid non-essential use of public transport, varying your travel times to avoid rush hour, when possible
  • Work from home, where possible. Your employer should support you to do this. Please refer to employer guidance for more information
  • Avoid large gatherings, and gatherings in smaller public spaces such as pubs, cinemas, restaurants, theatres, bars, clubs
  • Avoid gatherings with friends and family. Keep in touch using remote technology such as phone, internet, and social media
  • Use telephone or online services to contact your GP or other essential services

Everyone should be trying to follow these measures as much as is pragmatic. We strongly advise you to follow the above measures as much as you can and to significantly limit your face-to-face interaction with friends and family if possible, particularly if you:

  • are over 70
  • have an underlying health condition
  • are pregnant

This advice is likely to be in place for some weeks.

Boroughbury Medical Centre is not doing any swab tests. We are planning to hold off some of our routine clinics like ear syringing, joint injections, ear micro-suction etc. as well as reducing our blood test appointments in order to be prepared to deal with more urgent cases if required.

We understand these are difficult times and we are here to still help you with your medical needs. However please respect the changes we have made which are there for your safety as well as our staff.

The NHS and Public Health England (PHE) are extremely well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The current risk to the general public is moderate.

You can help too. 

Germs can live on some surfaces for hours. To protect yourself and others: 

- Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. 
- Bin the tissue, and to kill the germs, wash your hands with soap and water, or use a sanitiser gel. 
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.

EPS Phase 4

Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is a way of patients having their prescriptions sent electronically to a pharmacy of their choice, avoiding the need to collect the prescription from the surgery.

From Monday 23rd March 2020 Boroughbury Medical Centre will commence ‘EPS Phase 4’.

This means that patients without a nominated pharmacy will also be issued prescriptions electronically.

Patients who do not have a nominated pharmacy will be given a Phase 4 Token with a unique bar code that can be taken to any pharmacy for processing. This replaces the traditional prescription you are currently given and can be taken to any pharmacy in England to be dispensed.

If you would like to nominate a pharmacy please speak to a member of the Medicines Management Team or the pharmacy you wish to be nominated to who will arrange this for you.

Community support.

We have a large support network of various volunteer groups who are helping people at need in this difficult time if you would like to find out more please see the list on our Community page, along with ways to help.


We gratefully acknowledge the Grant we have received from the Harry Cureton Charitable Trust in 2018, which has enabled us to purchase a Microsuction unit, Learning & Development for staff and a Hydraulic Couch so we can now offer a Microsuction Service to patients.
